So You Think You Can Dance: Charleston & Washington, DC auditions
Our first stop tonight is in Charleston. Sheila Kaiser auditions first, against the wishes of her father. We're surprised at how good she is- she has lots of musicality. The judges send her straight to Vegas.

Next are Erin Mansour and John Tabakian, dancing a ballroom routine. Only problem is, Erin has apparently only been dancing ballroom for eight hours. What? Why? Does she WANT to be ridiculed? Hopefully so, because that's exactly what happens. Neither of them actually dance- she just walks around and shakes her butt once in a while, and he's like a zombie. The worst thing about all this is, she says she's a dance teacher. Ack! Thankfully, they're both cut.

At first we're not sure about Jeremiah Hughes, but it turns out he's actually pretty good. He's a bit inconsistent and screws up in a pretty major way at one point, but overall he does a good job. The judges apparently also see his potential, and they send him straight to Vegas.

Syiddah King dresses like she's about five years old... and it turns out she dances the same way. Boredom sets in about 4 seconds after her audition starts. After she's finished, she says she wouldn't even call what she does dancing, it's "just her." She says she didn't choreograph anything and she doesn't want to learn anyone else's choreography, and furthermore she doesn't care what Tyce Diorio has to say because she doesn't know who he is. So... why is she here? Did we miss something? At any rate, she gets cut.

Next is Shamika Robinson, and for a moment we think something has happened to our TV and it's gone into slow motion mode. It's like a half-speed striptease. She tells the judges that if she gets put through to Vegas, she's going to postpone her upcoming wedding so she can get married there. They tell her not to change the date and cut her.

Anthony and Antwain Hart are twins, and they've been dancing together for quite some time. First they audition seperately. Anthony is first, and although he's not BAD, he more or less does the same thing throughout the entire song, and the judges cut him. However, when his brother Antwain auditions and does very well, he convinces the judges to let Anthony come back and perform with him. As a result, both brothers are put through to the choreography round. Both of them make it to Vegas after the choreography round, along with 18 other dancers.

Day two in Charleston begins with Abigail Thurman, who can't dance to save her life but does take criticism very well. Well, at least that part is refreshing.

BJ Harris is at the auditions because his school raised the money for him to come. He dances a hip hop routine, which never really excites us... but, hey, at least it's original hip hop. He's very entertaining in this style, but we're not at all convinced that he'll be good at anything else. He makes it to the choreography round.

Courtney Galiano was in line at 4 AM with her grandmother- her grandmother, who was serving breakfast to everyone in line. She has a great personality, and it turns out she's also a great dancer. She has the whole package; we think she'll probably go far in the competition. She makes it straight to Vegas.

Jason Looney shows up for his audition in drag... complete with beard stubble. It's obvious from the start that he's only there to make a pathetic attempt to get on TV no matter what it takes, and the judges call him on it. Not only do they call him on it, but they are pissed. We nearly fall off our seats with glee when they rip him a new one and then dismiss him.

While we recover from that excitement, let's watch a montage of people dancing badly to "Thriller." Joy.

Claire Callaway has returned after a long road. She auditioned in season 2, but then was injured when she was in Vegas. The judges told her at the time that she could come back the next season at that point and pick up where she left off, but last year she was unable to return because she was pregnant with her new baby girl. She's come back this year after almost two years of not dancing to try again. Unfortunately she's not nearly as good as she was in season 2, but the judges put her through to the choreography round because they know she's capable of better.

During the choreography round, BJ Harris is cut. Claire Callaway, however, makes it through to Vegas, along with 17 other people.

Now, we're on to Washington, DC. We begin with Megan Campbell, who doesn't so much dance as roll around and jump really high a few times. She seems very awkward to us, but for some reason, the judges love her. They send her straight to Vegas.

After hyperventilating the last time he auditioned, Derrick Bradley has returned to give it another shot. Someone ought to tell him he's auditioning for So You Think You Can DANCE, not So You Think You Can MIME. After being cut, he says this will probably be the last time he auditions. One can hope.

Next is Markus Shields, wearing a t-shirt bearing the image of his mother, who died when he was 12. He dances a hip hop routine to Elliott Yamin's "Wait For You," and it's a well-done routine... but it's very obvious he's not happy with it. The judges tell him he's a great dancer, but it's apparent that he's not having fun. They put him through to the choreography round and give him another chance.

Montage of weird dancing. We're bored again.

Markus Smith and Deonna Ball perform a DC swing routine for their audition. We immediately dislike them during their interviews- they come off as incredibly cocky. Their dancing is not that bad, but it's nothing we haven't seen before and it won't stand out in the long run. They both make it to the choreography round. Once they get there, however, they're both cut.

Markus Shields makes it to Vegas, along with a grand total of... NINE other people. Not a very eventful day in DC.

Brandon Bryant lied about his age when he auditioned during season 1- he was 15, three years shy of the required 18. He's come back today, and we're incredibly glad he has. He is simply amazing. The performance is very intense, his technique is perfect, and he's probably one of the best auditions we've seen all season. Suffice it to say, he's sent straight to Vegas without hesitation.

Phucdat Nguyen says he was picked on in school, and it's not at all hard to see why. His musicality and his performance are pretty good, but he is so cheesy we can hardly stand it. The judges like his originality, so he makes it to the choreography round.

Mariya Priymak dances with a ribbon and bores the judges (and us) to tears. Next.

And now the return of Anthony Bryant, who auditioned in season 1 and also danced with a ribbon. Back in the day, the judges told him he wasn't masculine enough, so today he's decided to show up wearing a military uniform. This seems to us like some kind of sarcasm, and we don't like it a bit. His technique is good, but his performance is incredibly boring. The judges put him through to the choreography round.

During the choreography round, Phucdat and Anthony are both cut. Anthony has a massive meltdown about his shoes and storms off in a frenzy of negativity, whining about how much he "suffers." Please. Spare us.

On day two, another whopping nine people make it to Vegas. Next week, the last audition will take place in Milwaukee.
